Ithaca Shooting  Stars Invitational
Important Messages for Teams
November 21, 2008

Read Carefully BEFORE Arrival in Ithaca!

Refer to _www.ithacagirlshockey.com_ (http://www.ithacagirlshockey.com)

Tournament  Link and Rink Directions, Weather, etc!

Game Schedule:

Home teams will wear light  jerseys (except in 19U division when opponents of the Hamburg Hawks must wear  light since their jersey color is blue).
Crossover games will be announced as  soon as they are known (where you see A1, A2, etc. on the schedule document;  third games are determined by record in the first two games—2 points for wins, 1  for ties, 0 for losses).   Scores will be posted at both The RINK and Cass Park,  and on the web site.
Tournament Rules: Rules on the web site may say  2007 but they are the same in 2008. It is our intent to offer a safe and fair  hockey competition for all players. Referees, the Tournament Committee, and the  Discipline Committee will work together in this endeavor and ask you to also  encourage positive attitudes and behaviors from your players and parents.

Off Ice Officials:
Tompkins Girls Hockey Association  volunteers will cover all clock and scorekeeping duties, but we ask each team to  provide one adult Penalty Box worker for each of their games at The RINK..  Only one is needed for Cass Park, but it is okay to have a maximum of  two adults in that box.

Official Rosters:
Thank you to everyone for getting  us your rosters, fees, applications, photos, captions, etc! We do need to see a  copy of your USA Hockey team registration official roster (or Hockey  Canada roster) when you check  in for thefirst game, or you can simply bring us a copy.

Score Sheets:
Coaches need to sign in on the  game score sheet before each game; see the tournament info table at each venue.  Girls do not need to sign in. Score sheets will be available soon after the  completion of each game. Contact Information: I am your contact and feel free  to contact me at any time during the weekend at 607-280-4380, or in advance by  email or phone.  We need to be able  to reach each team during the tournament.  Please provide the name of the contact, their hotel or other  accommodations, their cell phone.  Send this to me in advance by email. Thank you.

Our rinks are The RINK  and Cass Park:
If you haven't been to Ithaca  before, be aware that Cass Park has a roof and wind-break but is essentially an  outdoor rink attached to a building for locker room/lobby/concession. Spectators  and coaches need to dress for the weather as the girls will be skating to keep  warm! Our girls prefer this hard ice surface to many totally enclosed rinks they  experience...especially when it's been cold like this year.

Community Service Opportunity:
Travel hockey players sometimes don’t have time to do much community service, but there is an easy one when you  are at the Ithaca Shooting Stars Invitational. Our Rotary Clubs are collecting new and lightly used outer-wear through the Share the Warmth campaign.  There is a large well-marked crate in  the lobby of The RINK for donations especially of children’s coats, snowpants,  hats, gloves, scarves and boots.  Deadline is December 7 so the tournament is an excellent collection  time before the annual distribution to families in need.

Go Big Red Men’s Hockey:
The Cornell men’s hockey team  will be entertaining Clarkson on Dec. 5 and St. Lawrence on Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m.;  tickets are not very available, but you
can call 607-254-BEAR to check. Girls High School Hockey: Ithaca High Girls Varsity will be  playing Massena High School Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Lynah Rink if you are  arriving in town early and want to be spectators.  Tournament team players  will not be charged admission at this game.  For information about the  growth of high school hockey for girls, contact me anytime.  The league has  grown to 14 teams in three divisions this season with prospects for a fourth  division next season!

Tournament Special  Features:
No  Gate Admission will be charged, but we hope you will buy the tournament program featuring team photos, schedule and scoreboard, and information about
TGHA sponsors and area restaurants. Raffle table will be at The RINK  lobby with many great hockey-related items as well as others featuring  local items or ones that travel hockey families will enjoy.

Tournament apparel will be on sale  in The RINK lobby. This year there  will also be a sports jewelry vendor; holiday shopping opportunity while  watching the girls play!

Action photography will be again  offered by Paul Johnson at many RINK and Cass games.  Even though many of us have digital  cameras now and photo printing options at home, his cameras are superior at  catching hockey action.  In addition  to standard photos print options, he will probably offer CDs for you to take  home for your personal use.

Feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.

I will post these messages on our web site soon, too:

Tournament To Dos:

1. Do you have your hotel rooms reserved yet?  The tournament web site lists three tournament hotels. We anticipate listing additional ones when these three are full.  We hope you are staying at one of them. If you have made other plans, could you let me know where?  Also let me know if you encounter any difficulties at these hotels.  Thank you.

2. It is time for us to prepare the printed tournament program.  Below you'll find instructions for the best way to send us your team roster.  Please send the roster even if you have already sent us a version with your application. Send a team photo with caption (names of players and coaches as seen in the photo) to IthacaInvitational@yahoo.com. Deadline Monday, Nov. 3.

3, Please send your fees now.  Checks should be written to TGHA.  Thanks to those who have sent full payment or $100 deposits already.  Send now what you think you owe.  I will begin sending specific reminders after October 15 to those who have not yet paid in full.

The team fee for this invitational tournament is $750 for 19U, 16U and 14U; 12U division is $700. All teams are guaranteed three games minimum. 19U, 16U, and 14U teams will play three 15-minute stop periods; 12U will play three 12-minute periods.

There will be NO gate fee charged at the rinks to spectators and family members.

4. Our program features display advertisements.  Attached is a flier you can print and give to your team families. Place a personalized message such as team or individual parents encouraging their daughters and friends and families supporting their teams. Some are placed by businesses advertising to tournament participants or showing their support of girls ice hockey.
