Summer Hockey Begins Tonight

Summer Hockey Registration

TGHA and The Rink are joining together to offer all girls in the region six skating sessions this summer that will focus on improving skating skills, physical conditioning and most important… having fun!  The sessions are on Monday evenings from July 19 through August 23 at The Rink in Lansing. Initiation, House and 10U/12U Non-Tournament Bound level players will skate from 6-7 PM. The Tournament Bound Travel Team players will skate from 7-8:15 PM.

The link below is for the form used for registration, which is available at The Rink and on the TGHA web site www.ithacahockey.com. You can attend all six sessions for $75 (a savings of $15) or select a lesser number of sessions at a cost of $15 each. There will be no drop-ins. The majority of the registration will take place on July 19. If you will not attend the first session, please mail the registration form to: The Rink, 1767 East Shore Drive, Ithaca New York 14850. Please be sure all checks are payable to the Community Recreation Center (C.R.C.). USA Hockey registration is strongly recommended and will be good for the entire 2010-11 season. Visit the USA Hockey website at www.usahockeyregistration.com for more information. We look forward to seeing you on the ice!

2010-2011 Travel Team Coaches Selected

The following individuals have been selected by the TGHA Board of Directors to be head coaches for the 2010-2011season.

10U or 12U Non-Tournament Bound:   Eric Eisenhut

12U Tournament Bound:   Rob Miettunen

14U Tournament Bound:   Russ Johnson

19U Tournament Bound:   Tony Eisenhut

The Board appreciates the many useful comments received from parents and community
members regarding our coaching candidates. Through the selection process the Board has
learned there is a need to improve communication between players, parents, coaches and
administrators during the entire season. The opportunities that the Board will promote in the
2010-2011 season include: 1) Team meetings to be held more frequently such as pre-
season, mid-season and pre-State tournament. 2) Selection of independent travel team
‘ombudsmen’ who can be outlets for player or parent concerns that may not be easily
shared with coaches. 3) Improve the understanding of travel hockey philosophy and player-
parent-coach relationships through the Adult Education seminars. In addition, the Board is
considering drafting coaching guidelines to clarify the underlying values and goals of our
Association. If you have any questions for the Board regarding the TGHA Travel Team
program please contact John Golay, VP Travel at 272-8916 or jwgolay@twcny.rr.com.

Board Member Nominations and Parent Helpers Wanted
TGHA is run by volunteers (parents and non-parents welcome) who serve as board
members, committee chairs, coaches, managers, committee members, off-ice officials for
games, etc. Each spring the board reorganizes and begins the planning for the coming
hockey season.

There are 3 vacancies on the 11 member Board to be filled and 3 other Director positions up for re-election. All TGHA members are eligible to vote for the 6 Director positions.  After being elected, we figure out how best to divide up the roles needed to facilitate all aspects of TGHA. These roles include, but are not limited to, management of House and Travel programs, coordination of coaches, scheduling of ice use, tournament coordination, recruitment of new members, communications (e-newsletters and media releases), events for current members, record-keeping for membership and for financial transactions, adult education, clothing orders, fundraising.

If you have an interest in joining the Board of Directors please send a brief statement of interest to TGHA0910@yahoo.com or Karen Muckstadt at skemuck@yahoo.com on or before June 16.
